Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
